Statistics Canada reported Friday that Canada reported a C$3 billion (US$3 billion) trade surplus in December from a November deficit of C$115 million (US$115 million). The surplus marks Canada's first in 10 months.

December exports totaled C$37.8 billion (US$ 38.2 billion), a 9.7 percent increase over the previous month and the highest level since February 1982. The increase was largely attributed to an increase in industrial goods exports, particularly metals, which rose 7 percent. Canadian imports totaled C$34.8 billion (US$35.3 billion).
