Mexico’s economy secretariat, SE, unveiled this week the country’s NMX-B-331-CANACERO-2016 steel norm, which will replace the NMX-B-331-1982.

According to the Mexican government, the new specifications will be taken into effect 60 days, following the next day of the publication of the resolution on October 17, 2016.

The NMXB-331-CANACERO-2016 establishes rules for the steel-etching method for macroscopic examination, which chemically “attacks” steel samples, so its macrostructures can be examined at low magnifications.

SE clarified the Mexican norm isn’t equivalent to the ISO 4969:2015 steel-etching method for macroscopic examination because of the particular characteristics of the Mexican steel market.
