Belarus has determined the volumes of ferrous and non-ferrous waste and scrap required for state (national) needs in 2011 as 1.5 million mt and 18,284 mt respectively.

The main consumers of state-ordered scrap in Belarus are the enterprises of the Byelorussian Ministry of Industry - for which 560,000 mt of scrap are to be supplied in the current year, the enterprises of the Ministry of Transport and Communications - for which 120,000 mt of scrap are to be supplied, the Byelorussian Republican Union of Consumer Societies - for which 208,000 mt will be delivered, and the Ministry of Architecture and Construction - which is to receive 62,000 mt in 2011.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, the state orders for ferrous scrap for 2010 were also at the level of 1.5 million mt - down 16.7 percent year on year. In 2009, the Byelorussian state orders for ferrous scrap amounted to 1.8 million mt - up 1.5 times compared to 2008. However, the volume of scrap which was actually procured by the state in 2009 was about 1.5 million mt.
