The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) handled nearly 2.2 million breakbulk tons throughout its terminal during the fiscal year 2011 (July 1, 2010-June 30, 2011)--a 37.5 percent increase compared with FY2010. The GPA also handled more than 2.9 million TEUs at the Port of Savannah, Georgia--a year-on-year increase of 11 percent--due to an increase in automobile and machinery shipments.

Export commodities grew by 12 percent, compared to 9 percent growth in imports. Overall, export throughput comprised 53 percent of the GPA's total containerized cargo, driven by Southern Asian, African and Eastern European export trade lanes.
