Brazil’s iron ore exports decline in January

Brazil's iron ore export value in January this year declined by half compared to the previous month and fell by 27.4 percent compared to the same month of 2011, totaling $1.8 billion, according to the information released by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. Brazil's iron ore export volume amounted to 18.2 million mt in January, with a fall of 47 percent compared to December 2011 and decreasing by 20 percent compared to the same month of 2011.

In January of the current year, Brazil's iron and steel export volume amounted to 648,100 mt, remaining stable compared to the previous month and up 3.2 percent compared to the same month of 2011, while these exports were valued at $392.4 million, with a decrease of 4.6 percent compared to December 2011 and up 16.6 percent year on year.
