Brazil’s domestic sales of iron ore decrease in 2014

Brazil’s domestic sales of iron ore in 2014 decreased 13.2 percent to 16.7 million mt, year-on-year, according to data from the nation’s iron ore association, Sinferbase.

In particular, Vale’s domestic sales of iron ore fell 3.2 percent year-on-year in 2014, to 14.9 million mt from 15.4 million mt in 2013.

MMX saw domestic sales of the product to fall 53.2 percent to 1.8 million mt in 2014 from 3.9 million mt in 2013.

Additionally, Vale and its affiliated companies accounted for 91.2 percent of Brazil’s total iron ore exports in 2014. Anglo American, MMX and Samarco accounted for the remaining 8.8 percent share.
