Brazil’s civil construction activity in February reached its lowest level in five years, according to data from the nation’s industry confederation, CNI.

According to CNI, the segment is employing less and has no perspectives to increase investments. Segment activity fell 33.2 points in February, in a scale from zero to 100, in which values above 50 show growth.

The number is 11.7 points lower when compared to the 44.9 points registered in February 2014. According to CNI, it is also the lowest level since 2009.

During the month, civil construction “idleness” was at 60 percent, down 9 percent year-on-year.

“Before this scenario, the sector was already pessimistic. In March, all expectancy indicators for the next six months were below the dividing line of 50 points, which separated optimism from pessimism,” CNI said.
