Brazilian steel consumption declines 12.6 percent in April

The apparent consumption of steel products in Brazil reached 1.9 million mt in April, 12.6 percent less than in March, according to the Brazilian steel institute (IABr).

Under the same comparative basis, domestic sales declined by 14.3 percent to 1.5 million mt, exports declined by 29.2 percent to 880,000 mt and imports increased by 21.1 percent to 403,000 mt, while the crude steel production increased by 5.1 percent to 2.8 million mt.

In first four months of the year, on a yearly basis, combined crude steel production increased by 8.8 percent to 10.6 million mt, domestic sales declined by 4 percent to 6.4 million mt, exports declined by 10.5 percent to 4.0 million mt and imports increased by 34.4 percent to 1.4 million mt, while apparent consumption declined by 0.9 percent to 7.7 million mt.
