Brazilian mill CSN’s profit soars in Q1 2010 led by domestic sales

On May 6, Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) issued its financial results for the first quarter of 2010, stating that the company's sales were mainly driven by domestic sales. 

According to the financial results, the net income of the company was BRL 482 million ($259.8 million) in the first quarter of 2010, increasing 31 percent compared to the first quarter of 2009. Sales revenues in the first quarter of 2010 saw a increase of 30 percent year on year, rising to BRL 3.2 billion ($1.7 billion). The EBITDA of CSN was BRL 1.3 billion ($700.8 million) in the first quarter of 2010, increasing by 91 percent compared to the corresponding period of last year.

Steel product sales volume totaled 1.3 million mt in the first quarter of 2010, rising 96 percent year on year.
