A Brazilian delegation will travel to the US capital in Washington, DC, to persuade Trump’s administration to revert antidumping duties imposed on imports of Brazilian flat steel products, a Brazilian steel executive told SteelOrbis in the sidelines of the Brazil Steel Congress, held in Brasilia, from August 22-23.
“Brazilian minister [of industry, foreign trade and services, MDIC] Marcos Pereira will lead the Brazilian delegation traveling to Washington,” said Alexandre Lyra, president of the directing council of Brazil’s steel association, IABr.
Lyra, who is also president of Vallourec in Brazil, told SteelOrbis that Brazilian steel executives along the minister will compose the delegation, which will travel to the US “probably in the second week of September.”
Brazilian president Michel Temer joined the opening ceremony of the Brazil Steel Congress this week in Brasilia.
Temer said the country’s diplomats have agreed to defend fair trade competition.
Brazil has applied a number of AD duties over Chinese steel and the topic of Chinese imports remain a key issue for the local steel industry.
