Indian industrial gas firm BOC India Ltd has signed a 15-year gas supply contract with the state-run steelmaker Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) for the supply of gas to meet the needs of the latter's expansion plans.

The contract in question involves the supply of 2,600 mt per day of oxygen, nitrogen and argon gases to meet SAIL's gradually increasing demand arising from the capacity expansion at its Rourkela steel plant.

According to the contract, SAIL has proposed to set up two nitrous oxygen systems with 855 mt daily capacity at air separation units at Rourkela.

The Rourkela plant is undergoing an expansion to increase steel production capacity to 3.2 million mt per annum through the addition of a new blast furnace and converter.
