Blast furnace failure to diminish output at Tenaris Tamsa

A failure at a Tenaris Tamsa blast furnace on August 9 may result in reduced output for the Mexican tube producer, according to several media reports this week.

On August 9, a failure at a sensor of a blast furnace interrupted output, causing damages to the equipment’s structure. The sensor reportedly failed during the second load of scrap into the equipment’s fusion furnace—the equipment made an inclination of 60 degrees, instead of 20, damaging the blast furnace.

A local union said this week the failure will likely affect Tenaris Tamsa’s output for about 2 months.

“The furnace of the meltshop is a fundamental part of Tamsa 1, Tamsa 2 and Tamsa 3. It is the heart of Tamsa’s production. I’m talking about 40 to 60 days of a halt in this department,” union leader Enrique Ruiz Saavedra told Mexican media.

Tenaris Tamsa didn’t respond to a request for comment.
