Germany-based plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that it will supply a pickling line/tandem cold mill and two continuous annealing lines for Chinese steelmaker Bengang Steel Plates Co. (Benxi), enabling Benxi to start high quality automotive steel production.

According to SMS Siemag, the lines are part of the new cold rolling mill No. 3 to be installed in the northern Chinese province of Liaoning. As of the summer of 2015, the new facilities will produce more than 2 million mt of high-grade pickled, cold-rolled and annealed steel strip, including high-strength grades such as dual phase and TRIP steel.

This pickling line/tandem cold mill and annealing line will be the first in the world to be able to process strips with widths of up to 2,150 mm. The facilities are expected to start production in 2015.
