Italy-based Forni Industriali Bendotti, which specializes in the construction of furnaces for the metallurgical industry, has signed a contract for the provision of a 100mt/h walking beam furnace to Oman-based steel producer Sohar Steel.

The furnace in question will ensure an hourly production of 100 mt with a charge consisting of cold billets with a 120-140-150 mm section. The billets can be loaded in a single line of 12 m in length. The heating fuel used is natural gas.

Sohar Steel's plans include the construction of a new steel complex that will allow the company to double its production capacity. Sohar Steel has already purchased a 500,000 mt per year rebar mill from UAE-based RAK Steel. Its assembly and adjustment is currently underway. The new equipment is slated for commissioning in the second half of 2013. The designed output capacity of the Sohar Steel complex will rise to 800,000 mt per year as a result.
