Baotou Steel plans RMB 2 billion plate project

SteelOrbis Shanghai China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region based Baotou Group decided to invest RMB 2 billion ($248 million) in establishing a 1.4 million metric tons per annum capacity wide and thick plate production line. Currently, the company is working on bidding, land purchasing and equipment introduction of the project which is a key for Baotou Steel's 10 million metric tons per annum crude steel production target. The rolling machines will be supplied from SMS DEMAG and Siemens Company, and the continuous casting machines from Danieli Metallurgical Equipment Co. Ltd. 5-100 mm thick × 1,200-3,650 mm wide × 3,000-18,000 mm long plates will be produced at the line. The products will be used in long-distance oil transport pipe, large diameter pipe for natural gas, shipbuilding, boiler and pressure vessel production. The rolling machine of the line adopts the most advanced CVC technology with 4,100 mm-long roller. In related news, Baotou Group is in talks with Mittal Steel regarding the sale of up to 49 percent stake.
