According to Shanghai-based Chinese steel giant Baosteel Group, its steel tube and steel bar business unit and Japan-based Howa Trading Co. have together won a contract to supply about 26,000 mt of high frequency welded (HFW) line pipe to the Curtis liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in the Surat Basin in Queensland, Australia.

The contract is the biggest order received by Baosteel since its HFW pipe plant was put into production in October 2007. The plant has an annual output capacity of 300,000 mt.

Meanwhile, Baosteel has also announced that in 2011 its silicon steel division recorded an output of 1.2477 million mt, 23,600 mt more than the annual target. In November 2011, Baosteel put its second phase silicon steel project into operation with an annual capacity of 100,000 mt. In addition, construction of the third phase started in June last year.
