Azeri steelmaker DHT Metal JV to commission new melting shop and rolling mill

Baku, Azerbaijan-based steelmaker DHT Metal JV will commission a new melting shop on February 19 and a new rolling mill in March.

The company, which has been active in the sector since 1995, is the first Azeri steelmaker to implement the quality management system TSE ISO 9001-2008. DHT Metal JV's steel plant currently has a melting capacity of 150,000 mt and a rolling capacity also of 150,000 mt. Following the new investments, these capacities will be raised to 300,000 mt and 400,000 mt respectively.

Company officials have told SteelOrbis that the new melting mill will have an electric arc furnace, a ladle crane and a continuous casting machine with a melting capacity of 30mt/hour. The sizes of the billets to be produced in the mill will be 100 x 6,000 mm, 130 x 6,000 mm and 150 x 6,000 mm.

On the other hand, the rolling mill to be commissioned in March will produce rebars with diameters from 8 mm to 40 mm, round bars with diameters from 8 mm to 40 mm, flat bars in 25 x 4 mm and 50 x 10 mm sizes, square bars with thicknesses between 10 mm and 16 mm and angles with thicknesses of 20, 25 and 30 mm. The product standards will be GOST, ASTM and EN.

The company aims to sell its products to both local and international markets, namely to Turkey, Iran, Georgia and Iraq.
