Australia's Antidumping Commission has announced that it has started an exemption inquiry regarding the antidumping (AD) duties on hot rolled steel plate imports from China, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea and the countervailing duties (CVD) imposed on the same imports from China.

The exemption has been requested by the Australian steel plate producer Wear Plate Australasia Pty Ltd (Wear Plate) for the goods under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 7208.51.00 and 7208.52.00.

The commission stated that, as part of the investigation, the Assistant Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science and the Parliamentary Secretary may exempt the mentioned goods from antidumping duties if they are satisfied that like or directly competitive goods are not offered for sale in Australia to all purchasers on equal terms under like conditions having regard to the custom and usage of trade.

The antidumping duties, initially imposed on the steel plate imports on December 19, 2013, range between 8.6 percent and 20.6 percent for Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea, while the combined effective rate of duty for China stands at 54.9 percent.
