The Australian Customs Border and Protection Service has stated that it intends to impose securities on welded pipe imports from China, South Korean, Malaysia and Taiwan, effective as of January 10, 2012.
On September 19, the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service initiated an investigation following an application lodged by OneSteel Australian Tube Mills Pty Ltd, a manufacturer of hollow structural sections (HSS) in Australia requesting the publication of a dumping duty notice in respect of certain HSS exported to Australia from China, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand, and the publication of a countervailing duty notice in respect of certain HSS exported to Australia from China.
The goods in question are certain electric resistance welded pipe and tube made of carbon steel, comprising circular and non-circular hollow sections in galvanized and non-galvanized finishes. The goods are classified under item numbers 73063000, 73066100 and 73066900.
On December 23, 2011, the Customs and Border Protection Service stated that there appeared to be sufficient grounds for the publication of a dumping duty notice in respect of the goods exported to Australia from China, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan.
