Assocham: India to commission 40 million mt new steelmaking capacity by 2026

About 40 million mt per year of new steelmaking capacity is expected to be commissioned in India by the fiscal year 2025-26, according to a report of industry representative body Assocham issued on Monday, May 29.

Chairman of Assocham’s National Council for Iron and Steel, Vinod Nowal, said that, while 40 million mt of new capacity will go onstream by 2026, Indian domestic steelmaking capacity will touch around 255 million mt per year by 2031.

According to the Indian Steel Association (ISA), the representative body of domestic steel companies, current domestic steelmaking capacity is around 154 million mt per year.
