Argentinian government seeking decreased steel prices to boost construction activity

Friday, 21 April 2017 22:46:24 (GMT+3)   |   Sao Paulo
The Argentinian government is seeking a decrease in local steel prices as a way to boost construction activity in the country, according to a media report this week.

The Argentinian government was able to reach an agreement with primary smelter Aluar to decline the cost of aluminum bars by $14, reducing costs for both public and private works. Now, Argentina is pursuing a similar deal with the local steelmakers, so civil construction materials could cost less. Argentina’s top steelmakers include Ternium Siderar, Tenaris Siderca, Acerbrag, and ArcelorMittal’s Acindar.

The government should meet next week with the local steel segment, including steelmakers Acindar and Siderar, according to a media report from Cronista.
