According to the Latin American Iron and Steel Institute, in the January-April period of the current year Argentina's crude steel output reached 1.7477 million mt, up 10.8 percent year on year, but was still lower than the volumes produced in the corresponding period in the years 2005-2008.

In addition, the Latin American Iron and Steel Institute has asked the Argentinean government to keep a close eye on the increased imports of steel from China, and has suggested it should initiate antidumping measures to protect Argentina's steel industry if necessary.
