Argentina’s auto production decreased 13 percent in February, year-on-year, to 45,605 units according to a report this week from the nation’s automotive industry association, Adefa, adding that declining figures for production, sales and exports of cars is a trend that will likely persist following weak results in January.

For February, Argentinian domestic sales and exports of cars decreased by 19.5 and 6.8 percent to 44,074 and 24,223 units, respectively, according to Adefa.

Brazil’s is Argentina’s top destination for auto exports, accounting for about 75 percent of the nation’s total external sales. Mexico ranks second with a 6 percent share. Most Argentinian auto exports go to destinations within Latin America.

According to Isela Costantini, president of Adefa, the Argentinian auto industry is working hard to strengthen its ties with partnering countries Brazil and Mexico, as well as with Colombia and other Latin American countries.
