Arch coal met coal sales down quarter-on-quarter

Arch Coal sold 1.79 million short tons (st) of metallurgical coal in Q1 2019, down from 2.09 million st in Q4 2018, and down 14 percent quarter-on-quarter. Correspondingly, the company’s met coal sales per ton was $118.22/st in Q1 2019, $121.53/st in Q4 2018, and $115.97/st in the same quarter a year ago. The cost per ton was $67.27/st in Q1 2019, $74.84/st in Q4 2018, and $68.33/st in the same quarter a year ago.

Approximately 900,000 st of Arch Coal’s North American coking coal is priced at $123.94/st in committed contracts while approximately 1.6 million st of seaborne coke contracts are priced at $132.25/st.

Arch coal generated $72.74 million net income on $555.18 million in revenue in Q1 2019 compared to $59.99 million mt net income on $575.29 million in revenue in the same quarter a year ago.
