According to Union President James Sanderson, the ArcelorMittal steel mill in Georgetown, South Carolina is undergoing preparations to re-open after closing in July 2009. The announcement was made Thursday after Union leaders met with company officials.  Sanderson was told that previously laid off workers would be called back in the next few months after maintenance workers complete all necessary structural and safety checks. The mill is expected to be back to full production in early 2011.

In addition to improvements in the steel market, the decision was attributed to arrangements made to guarantee that raw materials would be shipped into the Georgetown port at a lower price than originally discussed.
