ArcelorMittal seeks €300 million government funding to decarbonize Duisburg plant

Luxembourg-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal has announced that it has applied for funding from the German government for its decarbonization plans for its Duisburg plant. Decarbonizing steel production at the Duisburg plant require investments of around €300 million, the steelmaker stated. Once the funding application is accepted, the approval of the European Commission will be needed.

The company’s plans include the use of green electricity in production. The electricity infrastructure of the plant will be expanded and renewable energy capacities will be added.

ArcelorMittal produces around one million mt of steel annually at its Duisburg plant.
