ArcelorMittal announced that it has idled a hot strip mill at its Northwestern Indiana facility, as part of a strategy to take capacity offline to make its US operations more efficient.

The United Steelworkers union said none of the mill's 300 workers will be laid off—instead they will be placed elsewhere. The union is reportedly still bargaining, but the goal is to prevent any layoffs.

The USW said ArcelorMittal plans to restructure its US operations by shutting down some finishing lines and investing in the remaining ones.
