ArcelorMittal Brazil has reached an agreement with a local union in the city of Joao Monlevade, in the state of Minas Gerais, to settle a decade-long dispute over labor rights, local union Sindmon-Metal said.
According to Sindmon-Metal, ArcelorMittal Brazil did not offer employees the right of a one-hour break for both lunch and rest, as required by local labor laws, but instead, only allowed workers to have a 30-minute break.
Under the terms of the deal, about 1,000 workers will be compensated by the company, following a court audience, which homologated the agreement in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.
ArcelorMittal has 15 days to fully compensate its employees.
