Guangxi-based Chinese steelmaker Liuzhou Iron and Steel Group (Liugang Group) lately held an official ceremony to announce the completion and launch of its 150 mt converter project, which means that Liugang has now become a large-scale steel company with a designed annual capacity of 10 million mt.

Liugang's 150 mt converter project embraces the most advanced equipment in China. The average steel output per unit of Liugang's three 150 mt converters is 130 mt, with a maximum output of 150 mt. The total investment for the three 150 mt converters amounted to RMB 1.8 billion ($264 million), with the project covering a land area of more than 100,000 square meters.

Since it broke earth on May 18, 2007, Liugang took only eleven months to complete the construction of converter No.1 and another five months for converters No. 2 and No. 3, with the following nine months devoted to the construction of auxiliary facilities.
