AK Steel announces July surcharge

Flying in the face of an almost industry-wide trend to eliminate surcharges, Middletown, Ohio-based AK Steel announced today, June 16, that they will add surcharges to all July shipments. Flat-rolled carbon steel customers will see a $208/ton surcharge while electrical steel customers will have to pay $200/ton. AK Steel is basing its surcharges raw materials and energy prices that go into the manufacture of it products. According to the company, it has determined the surcharges based on May 2005 purchase costs. AK Steel manufactures flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products, carbon and stainless tubular steel products.
