AK Steel and USW ratify labor contract for Kentucky facility

West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel said Friday that members of the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1865 union have ratified an 18-month labor agreement covering more than 800 hourly production and maintenance steel operations employees at the company's Ashland (Kentucky) Works. 

"We are pleased to have reached a new labor agreement at our Ashland Works ahead of the expiration date," said James L. Wainscott, Chairman, President and CEO of AK Steel. "The agreement continues to serve the interests of both the company and Local 1865 members in an increasingly competitive, global steel industry."

The current agreement expires on September 1, 2013.  The new agreement takes effect September 1, 2013 and expires on March 1, 2015.
