AISI: Weekly raw steel production week ending June 12

According to a June 14 report by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), for the week ending June 12, 2010, domestic raw steel production was 1,803,000 net tons and the capability utilization rate was 74.6 percent. Production during that same week was 1,123,000 tons, while the capability utilization was calculated to be 46.9 percent. These numbers reflect a 60.6 percent year-on-year increase from the same period in 2009. Also, it was reported that production for the week ending June 12, 2010 was up 1.0 percent from the previous week ending June 5, 2010 when production was 1,785,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.8 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through June 12, 2010 was 39,551,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 70.2 percent. This reflects a 66.4 percent increase from the 23,764,000 tons during the same period in 2009, when the capability utilization rate was 43.2 percent.

Broken down by districts, the production for the week ending June 12, 2010 in thousands of net tons is as follows: Northeast Coast: 119; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 123; Lake Erie: 43; Detroit: 120; Indiana/Chicago: 483; Midwest: 243; Southern: 590 and Western: 82.
