Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) reported this week consolidated net income of 17.58 billion pesos (US$13.9 billion) during the first half of the year, 12.6 percent lower than the 20.12 billion pesos (US$15.9 billion) reported for the first half of 2012.

The report also indicated that revenues for the second quarter of 2013 were about 8.58 billion pesos (US$6.7 billion), a decrease of 17 percent compared to revenue for 10.34 billion pesos (US$8.2 billion) in the second quarter of 2012.

According to the report, Q2 results were affected mainly by the unscheduled shutdown of the blast furnace 5.  Other factors affecting the results included the cessation of mining Micare Siglo XXI after the flooding caused by the rains in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, and a fire that crippled the mine V of MIMOSA unit.

Thus, the operating loss for the second quarter amounted to 613 million pesos (US$48.3 million). However, AHMSA placed 851,794 tons of steel products in the market during Q2 that allowed an income of 8.58 billion pesos (US$6.7 billion).
