Acesco asks Colombia to extend duties over imports of Chinese galvanized flat sheets

Colombian steelmaker Acerias de Colombia (Acesco) asked the country’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mincomercio, to extend existing anti-dumping (AD) duties over the imports of Chinese hot dipped galvanized coils and flat sheet as a way to protect domestic production.

Acesco, Colombia’s main HDG and zinc tiles producer, seeks to extend the levies for five more years. Three years ago, Colombia applied AD duties over the imports of Chinese HDG.

Colombian importers buying HDG or any product following under the HTS code 7210.49.00.00 for less than $824.57/mt were required to pay a fine for the difference between the reference price they paid and the real price, as a way to protect the country’s domestic production.

Mincomercio accepted Acesco’s request and plans to investigate Chinese HDG imports. Acesco said eliminating the existing duties would mean harm for Acesco’s production and Colombia’s HDG production.
