Acciaierie d’Italia’s Cornigliano plant at risk of shutdown

Wednesday, 20 September 2023 16:23:05 (GMT+3)   |   Brescia

On the night of September 19, trade union officials at Italian steelmaker Acciaierie d’Italia issued a warning about the condition of the company’s plant in Cornigliano, Genoa.

As reported by Italian media, the plant is currently operating at minimum production “both for the galvanized and the tin sections”. The reason for this is the bad condition of the machinery caused by a lack of maintenance that is compromising the safety of workers. In fact, the plant is at risk of a shutdown, the trade union representatives stated.

Last week, the functioning of three overhead cranes was interrupted because of an accident that had no consequences for workers. However, the unions are asking for institutional action that could prevent more serious consequences.
