Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific)

Last week there was again a rush of fixing by BHP Billiton for iron ore from West Australia to China which has driven the market up again for a shortwhile. However, in the end of the week, we saw again the negative sign. In total the BCI increased by 758 points, the average of the 4 T/c route by $ 9.745 daily (closing friday at $ 155.324). The Atlantic was a little better than Far East in view of the very short number of Capes available in the basis for prompt/end July loading in Brazil. The fronthaul was improved by abt $ 3 per mt and the coal from Richards Bay to Continent was more or less stable with tendency to fall down again at the end of the week.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

Week 28 saw a big number of deals done, both in the spot and in the period segments. This volume of activity pushed up market rates in the Atlantic, where tarv trips have been concluded several times around the 90k edge, also reaching an amazing 93k for 2ll with redelivery Atlantic, fixed by a kamsarmax with dely in the Med. Also trip feast was done few times over mid 90k, especially for iron ore and steel products. Also short period in Atlantic saw rates around 91/92k for standard lme for a period of 4/5 months. The Pacific instead remained definitely weaker, also due to the high number of ppt ships open, not supported by a big quantity of cargoes from nopac, Australia and Indonesia.

Handy (Far East/Pacific)

As per below reported fixtures Aussie round voyage registered a strong presence in this market, even if the level of the rates has been slightly decreasing for all the week. Few requirements for nopac round biz for which rates dropped a bit as well. And also for trip to India Pakistan range we have seen cheaper rates than last week. Have been reported a long period tc for prompt delivery which is still registering high levels.

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean)

Poor activity ex Cont. We have been reported a vessel delivered there for short period, the Skua, at quite good 67500 usd daily. From Black Sea area there are a good numbers of orders, but still less than the ships open there. A modern 46.000 dwt has been fixed for a trip to SEAsia at 65.000 bss dop Turkey, which is abt 3-4 000 less than what was the value last week.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America)

A lot of activity coming out from ECSAm, especially now that the situation in Argentina is getting normal, good rates both for the trip to FEast and for the trip to Cont. From USG - ECSAm we have seen new cargos in the market and rates constantly going up, especially for trans atlantic biz.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

Less activity from India, both coasts, especially from WC India few cargos to China. Also from EC India to China there were less orders and also rates dropped a bit. Some fresh activity ex SAfrica to Feast.
