Equipment failure may delay U.S. Steel’s furnace rebuild

US Steel Corp reported that on Saturday (September 10), a large part of the No. 14 blast furnace being rebuilt at Gary Works might have been damaged during transport. The large fabricated furnace section involved in the accident will be inspected to determine the extent of any damage and whether the rebuild will have to be delayed. Replacement construction equipment has been acquired and is being transported to the site. No one was injured in the accident.
