Prices within the US domestic hollow structural sections (HSS) tubing market may be stable week-over-week, at $56-$57 cwt. ($1235-$1257/mt or $1120-$1140/nt), ex-mill, although some buyers report being able to obtain deals up to $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) below that range.
Sources close to SteelOrbis have indicated that overall demand is robust, which combined with still-firm US HRC prices has helped keep US HSS prices trending strong.
The fate of prices, however, rests in the hand of the Trump administration, and whether it implements import quotas for current Section 232 tariff-exempt countries. Sources throughout the US and across most market segments fear that import quotas could lead to a spike in domestic steel pricing in the upcoming months.
A final decision is expected to be rendered by the end of the month.
