US standard pipe prices inch up on the heels of firmed US HRC pricing

The most commonly reported spot market price transaction range for US domestic Grade A ERW BPE standard pipe has inched up by $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $40/nt) since our last report, to $48-$50 cwt. ($1058-$1102/mt or $960-$1000/nt), ex- mill, but sources close to SteelOrbis believe that prices will continue to firm in the upcoming weeks.

The pricing upticks are less about demand, sources note, and more about mills’ increased input costs, as US HRC and US domestic scarp prices have been trending steadily higher.

Overall market activity has begun to wane, another source said, as many have begun to prepare for the end-of-year holiday season.
