SteelOrbis sources have noted that US domestic HSS spot market prices continue to hold at approximately $40 cwt. ($882/mt or $800/nt), delivered to customers in the Southeast, however, deals are now available.

“The book price is still at $40 cwt. but there is a lot of downward pressure,” a source said. “In some cases, depending on how much tubing is needed, [HSS] is selling for less.”

A second source agreed, noting that overall demand is “so-so.”

“The recent flats price increase didn’t have any effect, and this week, we’re hearing that HRC prices have softened,” he said. “We’re being cautious with our inventory and we don’t want to pay book price for anything because we know that deals are available.”
