US domestic hollow structural section (HSS) prices may be at an all-time high, but sources close to SteelOrbis say they believe the uptrend isn’t done yet. In fact, many are predicting that yet another price increase announcement is imminent, and could come by the end of today.

That increase, a well-informed source noted, would likely be rolled out at $6.25 cwt. ($138/mt or $125/nt). Current prices are trending in the range of $107-$108 cwt. ($2,359-$2,381/mt or $2,140-$2,160/nt), FOB mill, but prices are expected to rise once the increase is announced.

“Coil prices are still going up and the economy is still hot, and we don’t see this thing slowing down before the end of the year,” a source said.
