SteelOrbis sources have confirmed that spot market prices for US domestic API X-52 line pipe have remained neutral in the past week, in the range of $49.50-$52.00 cwt. ($1,091-$1,146/mt or $990-$1,040/nt), ex-mill. However, sources close to SteelOrbis report that “official pricing” and transaction pricing can vary based on the customer, their desired tonnage, and “how desperate the seller is for cash flow.”

Import API X-52 from Mexico is also steady in the past seven days and continues to be heard in the range of $46.50-$50.00 cwt. ($1,025-$1,102/mt or $930-$1,000/nt), FOB Texas.

When asked about the overall state of the market and short term-outlook for the energy pipe sector, one source relayed the following:

“When I was a child, my mother said if I can’t say anything nice, I shouldn’t say anything at all,” he said. “I’m going to go ahead and apply that thinking to the market.”
