Turkish steel pipe prices increase due to higher HRC price levels

Prices have increased by $15-25/mt after the Feast of Sacrifice Feast in the Turkish welded pipe market due to the increases seen in local hot rolled coil prices in Turkey. "Now we have higher raw material costs and most pipe producers have already sold their production almost until October. For our market, we think it is fair to say that we have the demand to support new prices," one pipe producer told SteelOrbis.

"After the holiday, we have seen good demand again and even $550/mt levels have been heard in the market, but since yesterday everybody had to revise their prices first and then stopped offering because of the severe drop in the Turkish lira against the US dollar and euro. Now most market players want to wait until next week and hope to see some stability in the currencies soon," another producer told SteelOrbis.

Local prices for the Turkish welded pipes are now standing at $525-545/mt ex-works.

On the export side, prices have also increased, rising by $20/mt to $510-530/mt FOB, but demand has remained low, mainly because of the traditional holiday period in the EU and the fear of a second wave of Covid-19.

** Prices are given for ERW pipes and hollow sections with 2-4 mm wall thickness made from HRC of S235 grade as per EN 10219, on theoretical weight basis.
