During the past week, prices in the local Chinese steel pipe market have showed a strongly upward trend.
In seamless pipe segment, domestic prices have increased sharply in the given period. Overall trading activity has increased slightly and has been at a normal levels, as inventories were low after the Labor Day holiday. Upstream billet prices and other raw material prices have also increased sharply and supported the rise in seamless pipe prices. As for the week ahead, considering the strong support from raw material side, domestic seamless pipe prices in China are expected to continue their uptrend.
In the same period, domestic welded pipe prices in China have also increased sharply amid the rise in steel strip and other raw material prices both in spot and future markets. Meanwhile, demand has been weak. As for the week ahead, considering that support from upstream raw material side is still strong, it is believed that welded pipe prices will follow a fluctuating trend and will move upwards.
