SteelOrbis has been informed that demand in the local Turkish welded pipe market is on the stagnant side as purchases are being made only in line with needs. Meanwhile, Turkish producers’ offer range for ERW pipes and hollow sections with 2-4 mm wall thickness made from hot rolled coil (HRC) of S235 grade as per EN 10219 to the domestic market has remained stable over the past week at $660-700/mt ex-works.
Turkish steel mills report that the local Turkish welded pipe market is expecting a fall in prices in the coming days against the backdrop of the declines seen in hot rolled coil (HRC) quotations. Additionally, Turkish welded pipe producers are using HRC from their inventories as they are not planning to conclude new HRC purchases until prices gain clarity.
As announced in Turkey's Official Gazette today, April 27, the Turkish Ministry of Economy has launched a safeguard investigation on imports of certain steel products, including flat, long, pipe and hollow sections. The safeguard investigation will take nine months, while imports originating from the European Union will be exempt from the investigation. With Turkey also preparing for a snap election, the influence of this safeguard investigation on the local Turkish welded pipe market will be clarified in the coming days.
