Despite that most market players were not in a rush to estimate the upturn in the import scrap segment of Turkey as a sustainable trend, some suppliers have managed to insist on higher prices with deals closed to the Iskenderun region.

Ex-US scrap cargoes were finally booked to Turkey after a while of negotiations. The HMS I/II 90:10 scrap was marketed at $246/mt CFR while the shredded was priced at $249/mt CFR, SteelOrbis has learned. Another batch was sold at $244/mt CFR for HMS I/II 80:20, $249/mt CFR for shredded and $254/mt CFR for bonus grade.

In addition, the two more deals were fixed from the Baltic region. One lot consists of 25,000 mt of HMS I/II 80:20 scrap priced at $242/mt CFR and 5,000 mt of bonus grade at $252/mt CFR. The deal was closed for the prompt shipment, SteelOrbis understands. Another ex-Baltic scrap sale was closed at $241.5/mt CFR for HMS I/II 80:20 and $251.5/mt CFR for bonus grade to be shipped in November.

As a result, the Baltic origin of HMS I/II 80:20 prices have added $4.5-5/mt as compared to the previous deal. The US HMS I/II 80:20 scrap is currently priced at $244/mt CFR versus $233/mt CFR, fixed in the previous deal. “If short sea scrap is traded in Turkey at $235/mt CFR [for HMS I/II 80:20], then $240/mt CFR and slightly above is not a surprise for the deep sea,” a trader said.
