Turkish mills revise domestic scrap purchase prices amid weaker lira

Friday, 18 October 2019 12:07:56 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Turkish steel producers have mainly revised their local scrap purchase prices upwards in the national currency, aiming to offset its weakening against the US dollar. Most mills have revised the price levels upwards by TRY 20-60/mt depending on the company and scrap grade, resulting a in $1-8/mt increase. Some companies added TRY 80-120/mt for certain scrap grades which was reflected in a $12-19/mt rise on US dollar basis. Another reason for the upward revision in the domestic market is the cautious price uptrend in the import scrap segment, SteelOrbis understands. Those steel mills which are taking their time to increase the domestic scrap prices for now are expected to follow the majority, as their levels for the raw material in reality have decreased by $1-2/mt.
