On November 19, Tokyo Steel, the main EAF-based steel producer in Japan, announced a further scrap purchase price decrease. This time, the company has decreased scrap bids for two of its five assets.
Accordingly, the prices for H2 at the Tahara Works and the Kyushu plant have gone down by JPY 500/mt ($4.4/mt) to JPY 55,000/mt ($481/mt) and JPY 54,500/mt ($476/mt) respectively. Prices for the other three assets (Okayama Works, Utsunomiya and Takamatsu) have remained unchanged.
The prices for shindachi scrap have declined likewise, to JPY 61,000/mt ($533/mt) for the Tahara plant and JPY 56,500/mt ($494/mt) for the Kyushu plant.
On balance, following the revision, Tokyo Steel’s new price levels for H2 scrap have settled at JPY 51,000-55,000/mt ($447-481/mt), while for shindachi scrap they are at JPY 53,500-61,000/mt ($469-533/mt). All prices are delivered and effective from November 20.
