On September 14, SteelOrbis reported Tokyo Steel increased its scrap buying prices at its Okayama plant by JPY 500/mt to approximately JPY 36,500/mt ($326/mt) delivered. Additionally, SteelOrbis reported that most Tokyo Steel sites were purchasing H2 scrap at around JPY 36,500-37,500/mt ($326-335/mt), all prices delivered. Tokyo Steel buying prices traditionally trend higher than prices at mini-mills in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya.
On September 20, sources inform SteelOrbis that Tokyo Steel scrap buying prices have increased at its Tahara, Okayama, and Utsunomiya plants over the past week. The Okayama site has reportedly increased its buying price to JPY 38,000/mt ($338/mt) delivered, up JPY 1,500/mt or $12/mt. The Utsunomiya and Tahara plants also reportedly increased their scrap buying prices by JPY 500/mt over the week with both now at about JPY 37,500/mt ($333/mt).
The buying price range at the three sites is reportedly at JPY 37,500-38,000/mt (333-338/mt) delivered to customer. Compared to September 14, the price range increased $7/mt from the bottom of the previous range and $3/mt from the top of the same range.
