On March 1, SteelOrbis reported that Tokyo Steel had announced an increase in scrap purchase prices at its Tahara and Utsunomiya sites.

Sources inform SteelOrbis that the same sites have each increased their scrap purchase price on H2 scrap by JPY 500/mt. SteelOrbis was not informed if the other sites have also increased their scrap purchase prices, though it is “highly probable.”

At the time, SteelOrbis reported an average price of $337/mt delivered for the four sites listed. The average range for only the two sites was $346/mt delivered, or $9/mt above the average price. With the increased scrap purchase price for the two sites at JPY 37,500/mt delivered, the average price at the two sites is presently at $352/mt delivered, up $6/mt from March 1. According to a source, the average price for Tokyo Steel is estimated at $341-343/mt delivered throughout all its domestic sites at the moment, up $4-6/mt compared to March 1.
